Some random things

And they shall be filed randomly. So there. XD More randomness after the break! (This is a rather long post. ^^;)

First off, my grandma has been purging a lot of stuff from her house. She has a LOT of antiques, old clothing, pictures, and just plain stuff that she's been giving to the various children and grandchildren. One of the things she gave to me tonight is a dress from Japan (I thought it was a kimono, but it definitely isn't). She says she never actually wore it, so it's still in great condition aside from some of the fasteners being broken.

I tried this dress on last year, and it was too small--to the point that I couldn't breath or fasten it under the arms. But tonight I tried it on again...and it fit! It's very old, and I have no idea what it could be worn to or even if I could fix it to be worn in public, but hey, it fits and that's all that matters.

It's been folded in storage for decades, hence the many creases and folds. I miiiiight try to (very, very carefully) iron it, but that's a big maybe at this point. The fasteners are knots and loops--I'm thinking a long hidden zipper would be a better way to go, because the fabric has a tendency to gap open between each fasten thingy. They're on the opposite side, and go from the neck (there's a metal hook at the top) to just below the knee. But 3 or 4 are broken, and it just needs some help. The fabric still seems to be in really great shape though.

It's a lovely brocade...I thought it was silk, but it would be very thick and heavy for silk. So I have no idea what it's made from, how old it is, etc...sigh. I'll be researching in the next few days.

Can anyone guess what this is?

Did you guess?

.......

........

Did you even try?

I'll assume now that you've tried at least once to guess. If not, you're a spoilsport. XD

It's a mushroom under a mat of hay that I found in the barn! I went out to feed the horse today, saw that thing, and ran immediately back to the house to get the camera. (And when I say 'run' I mean 'totally sprinted'. No figurative speech here. XD)

I'm not sure why it's so fascinating. I think the weirdest thing is that it apparently popped up overnight, because yesterday it wasn't there and going out to see a 10-inch mushroom under a little hay hovel is pretty hilarious. At least, I thought so. :p

Also! Here's a moth that was on the counter today!

I think moths are stinkin' gorgeous. And butterflies--I saw a swallowtail butterfly yesterday (I think it was, anyway) flitting around the yard. And I saved two little moths that were struggling in the horse tank this morning. They just look so interesting.

Today I got my first tea order from Adagio teas! It may seem like a rather random selection, considering all of the fandom-inspired blends there are (I almost went for the Scarlet Pimpernel one), but I'd never heard of this one and wanted to give it a shot before trying to make my own Inspector Javert blend. (Hey, no one's made that blend yet, so shush.)

I think it's pronounced 'poo air poh'. But I could be abysmally wrong, so who knows.

According to some of the reviews it reminds them of horses and earthy, rich tones and is rather strong for some people's tastes. I found it to be rich but not overpowering, with a very pleasant flavor that didn't seem too strong at all. Seeing as how this is coming from a person who loves strong, intense flavors I can't guarantee that my taste is the best...but I really like it. It's something I can drink unsweetened and not even think about getting the sugar.

Plus, it gets really, really dark. Almost as dark as coffee.

This is after 5 minutes of brewing...it's a really gorgeous dark brown with a hint of red when poured in a clear glass.

(I may or may not be becoming a tea aficionado. <.< >.>)

There's your helping of random for today...enjoy, have a lovely, and I'll be back next week. *bows*
